COLOMBARD

Primo Estate La Biondina Colombard Sauvignon Blanc 2006

($15; 12% alcohol; screw cap; 93 points)

Joseph Grilli has just opened the coolest new cellar and tasting room in this state at McLaren Vale. It matches this racy, modern, summer-in-the-city blend. They’ll get in Wallpaper. Don’t stand on the Maserati. It’s red. I know it says sauvignon, but I see more slimy pinot grigio than grassy savvy – the wine has more viscosity and built form than previous ones. Maybe it’s just another of the influences of the strange ’06 year, like those creamy Clares. Duddent madder. Slurp. www.primoestate.com.au (11.11.06)
