Bodega Norton Mendoza Argentina Torrontes 2007
$10; 13% alcohol; screw cap; 86 points
Now, you ocker Riverlanders who reckon I’m unfair about your flat hot wines, tell me about this. Grown between 850 and 1100 metres above sea level in the Andes, by the Mendoza River at Lujan de Coyo, an upland oasis at Mendoza, it’s not quite of the intensity of the really immaculate torrontes which grow up above 1900 metres, but, well, you know, look at the priiiice! It smells like a particularly fragrant pink muscat, like a fronti/gewurz. Which it’s not. But by Bacchus it’s pretty. The palate’s felicitous and teasy, dancing around whippy natural acidity. Chook and chilli. Vintage Cellars (17 AUG 8)
